Identifying the root cause
Every child is different, and our proprietary “understand first” methodology analyzes the full spectrum of cognitive, behavioral, physical, genetic, psychosocial, and developmental factors to pinpoint the underlying root cause of symptoms or behaviors and identify the right interventions quickly.
We specialize in:
• Anxiety, worries, and OCD
• Depression and sadness
• Attention, focus, and ADHD
• Anger, aggression, and ODD
• Speech and language differences
• Sensory and motor differences
• Learning differences
• Behavioral concerns
• Autism evaluation and early childhood development
• Mood dysregulation and bipolar disorders
Integrated care
We offer expertise in a wide range of specialties, including nearly every kind of therapy, under one roof. With your consent, we work closely with your pediatrician or family practitioner to ensure they’re in the loop.
Blackbird Health services include:
• Behavioral therapy (CBT, ACT, DBT, CBIT, and others)
• Individual and family counseling
• Speech and language therapy
• Occupational therapy
• Play, talk, and art therapy
• Medication management
• Executive function coaching
• Developmental and nutritional support
• Parent and family support
• School and community advocacy
We see kids for who they are, not as their diagnosis. We work with every kid to set clear goals, achieve measurable successes, and adjust when we need to for sustained results across every aspect of their life—at school, at home, and with friends.
How It Works
Our goal is to initiate the right course of treatment as quickly and as smoothly as possible, so “how it works” can be a little different for everyone. We customize your treatment plan to meet your unique needs, on a timeline that works for you.
Our virtual-first model means that most sessions are conducted online in the comfort of your home, but you always have access to in-person care when you need it.
Intake
Typically one 1-hour visit
Our journey together begins with an opportunity for us to get to know each other. The intake appointment is typically a video call with one of our psychiatric certified registered nurse practitioners (CRNPs). We’ll complete a thorough screening and assessment, review medical history and records, and recommend more specialized evaluations to inform a deeper understanding of you and how your brain is built.
Intake screening
We consider a broad range of factors to understand the root cause of symptoms and inform the most effective treatment:
• Behavioral
• Cognitive
• Psychosocial
• Physiological
• Sensory motor
• Genetic profile
• Speech and language
• Neurodevelopmental
Evaluation
Typically one to three 1-hour visits
Our evaluation process is a comprehensive and supportive exploration of your strengths, uniqueness, and challenges. Evaluations may be virtual, in person, or a combination. We’ll also review any previous testing and assessments performed by outside specialists to ensure that all information is considered.
Possible evaluations:
• Diagnostic psychiatric evaluation
• Cognitive testing
• Speech and language evaluation
• Occupational therapy evaluation
• Autism evaluation
• Pharmacogenetic assessment
Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
Typically one 1-hour visit
You’ll meet with our psychiatric CRNP to review the results of any specialist evaluations and work together to create personalized goals based on your individual strengths and your family’s needs. These meetings are typically virtual. Once your integrated treatment plan is created, we assign your care team, and the road to success begins.
We typically begin therapy within 3 weeks of your first visit, and in some cases we can get started sooner. Our process is designed to make sure we’re starting therapy with the right clinician, the right interventions, and the right goals in place.
